Worked entirely by hand, this dohar is stitched through layers of fabric using rows of running stitch across the full surface - the kantha technique at its most elemental. The Spice Market pattern moves across a warm terracotta and burnt orange ground in vertical teal stripes, with scattered ikat-style florals in dusty pink, mauve and white breaking the rhythm. Each piece in this edition is entirely unrepeatable.
The reverse is a custom wide-width fabric in 45% cotton and 55% linen - a warm teal ground that lets the kantha stitch read clearly on both sides, the thread tracing its path from front to back in an unbroken line.
