Created through a unique underprint technique where ink drops through the top layer of hand woodblock printing over 8 to 12 printings across a month, the aged cotton front reveals unexpected patterns and soft, layered colour - each one entirely unrepeatable. This piece carries the Moody Plums pattern: a dense, impressionistic ground of muted blue-grey, dusty lavender, and sage green with deep burgundy-plum and coral-red floral clusters drifting across the surface - like a garden seen through mist, each layer of accumulated ink adding depth and atmosphere. Beneath the surface, ghost woodblock prints emerge in fine botanical scrolls and grid lines in navy and rust - the memory of countless printings laid down before it on the tables of Jaipur. Only one exists.
The reverse is crafted in a deep moss linen-cotton blend, the kantha running stitch visible on both sides in green thread - rows of hand-worked stitching binding the layers together across the full surface, giving the quilt its characteristic softness and drape. A vivid green blanket stitch frames the edge with a clean, considered finish.
