Created through a unique underprint technique where ink drops through the top layer of hand woodblock printing over 8 to 12 printings across a month, the aged cotton front reveals unexpected patterns and soft, layered colour - each one entirely unrepeatable. This piece carries the Blue Sprigs with Strawberries pattern: a soft dusty pink and blush ground scattered with blue-grey botanical sprigs, dark navy leaf clusters, and small red strawberry motifs drifting across the surface in an all-over impressionistic arrangement. Beneath it all, a soft coral stripe ghosts through the cloth - a trace of an earlier printing, barely visible yet adding warmth and depth to the whole. At the lower edge, a more defined border band of scrolling green stems, berries, and fine botanical illustration emerges - a classic Indian border detail, rendered in the layered language of the underprint. Only one exists.
The reverse is crafted in a deep moss linen-cotton blend, the kantha running stitch visible on both sides - rows of hand-worked thread stitching the layers together across the full surface, giving the quilt its characteristic softness and drape. A green blanket stitch frames the edge with a clean, considered finish.
