Full Kantha Dohar Quilt - Persian Emeralds / Blue Iris - One of a Kind

Created through a unique underprint technique where ink drops through the top layer of hand woodblock printing over 8 to 12 printings across a month, the aged cotton front reveals unexpected patterns and soft, layered colour - each one entirely unrepeatable. This piece carries the Persian Emeralds pattern: a luminous ground of emerald, teal, and sage with cascading vertical garlands of dusty rose and coral florals trailing through deep teal border stripes - intricate, jewel-toned, and entirely alive.

Because the underprint shifts in tone and density from one end of the cloth to the other - moving from a deeper, more saturated emerald at one edge to a softer, lighter sage at the other - the two lengths joined to make the full width read as two connected halves. But no two sides are ever the same. The accumulated layers of ink create a depth that shifts with the light, as though the cloth holds a garden within it. Only one exists.

The reverse is crafted in a Blue Iris linen-cotton blend, the kantha running stitch visible on both sides - rows of hand-worked thread stitching the layers together across the full surface, giving the quilt its characteristic softness and drape.
