Worked entirely by hand, this quilt is stitched through layers using rows of running stitch drawn across the full surface - the defining mark of the kantha tradition. The front is an upcycled underprint in harlequin garden - a warm sandy peach and cream ground alive with large-scale abstract botanical motifs in vivid fuchsia, coral red, dusty rose and muted teal-blue, the flowers and leaves loose and painterly, layered across the surface through 8 to 12 rounds of hand woodblock printing across a month of production. Where the layers build, the colour deepens and saturates; where they thin, the warm peach ground glows through in a lighter, more haphazard scatter. No two printings land the same way twice; this piece is entirely unrepeatable. Edition of one. The edges are finished with a fine hand blanket stitch - small, precise, and quietly present.
The reverse is a wide-width carnelian linen-cotton blend - deep, luminous burnt orange, rich as the semi-precious stone - with the kantha running stitch visible on both sides, tracing the same quiet rhythm across the cloth.
