This is a one-of-a-kind piece. Where ink drops through the top layer of hand woodblock printing over 8 to 12 printings across a month, the aged cotton beneath reveals the Burnt Sienna pattern - a deep, moody all-over ground of burnt sienna, terracotta and dark burgundy-plum, with large shadowy floral forms dissolving into the warm dark ground. Dense, painterly and smouldering - like embers seen through smoke, or a garden at dusk in the last of the light. Each is entirely unrepeatable.

The Damson linen-cotton backing deepens the plum and burgundy tones of the front, wrapping the piece in a rich, unified darkness. A 1cm flat flange frames the cover, finished with quiet precision.
