This is a one-of-a-kind piece. Where ink drops through the top layer of hand woodblock printing over 8 to 12 printings across a month, the aged cotton beneath reveals the Abstract Riot pattern - and riot is exactly what it is. Vast sweeping washes of steel-blue and slate flood the left and centre; a bold deep burgundy-wine wash takes the right; warm amber-gold and teal-green swirl through the middle where the two worlds collide. Ghosted red floral and botanical motifs drift through the upper portion - traces of former prints rising through the surface. In the lower left, a pale cream and white diagonal stripe pattern shows beneath it all, a quiet structural counterpoint to the colour storm above. Every layer of the underprint process is visible and alive. There is only one.

The Blue Iris linen-cotton backing echoes the steel-blue of the dominant front wash, deepening the cool, moody intensity from front to back. A 1cm flat flange frames the cover on all four edges.
